UNEP-IEMP participated in the ASEAN-China Environmental Cooperation Forum 2019 “Promoting Regional Green Growth: Best Practices of Eco-friendly City Construction and Sustainable Management of Marine Ecosystem” on September 17-18, 2019 in Guangxi, China. The China-ASEAN Environmental Cooperation Forum is an annual platform for regional environmental cooperation, which serves as a major channel for China and ASEAN to discuss environmental cooperation and a crucial bridge linking China and ASEAN communities involved in environmental cooperation. The 2019 forum was held as a component of the 16th China-ASEAN Expo. It highlighted the deep alignment of the Belt and Road Initiative with ASEAN development strategies, China-ASEAN strategic partnership at higher levels, and a closer China-ASEAN community of shared future. There were approximately 350 participants from ASEAN country governments and private sector, Chinese government agencies and research institutions, Chinese private sector and international organisations. UNEP-IEMP shared its relevant experiences and initiatives, particularly in the China-ASEAN region, under the Flagship Programme on Climate, Ecosystems and Livelihoods (CEL). The South-South Cooperation dimension, engaging China with other developing/developed countries, to contribute to China-ASEAN cooperation and other cooperation partnerships was also highlighted.
