On 28 September 2020, Springer Nature announced 10 winning titles of the 2020 Springer Nature: China New Development Awards. Dr. Linxiu Zhang, Director of the United Nations Environment Programme- International Ecosystem Management Partnership (UNEP-IEMP), delivered a video keynote speech for the online award ceremony, extending her congratulations to the winners.

As the guest speaker, Director Zhang expressed her congratulations to the winners and delivered a video keynote speech. In the speech, she highly recognized its role in promoting and guiding multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary research methods to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations, and praised the wide research fields covered by the winning titles. In addition, Director Zhang also expressed her expectations for the future awards, calling on more attention paid to the values to be gained by managing interactions and exploiting synergies among SDGs and focusing more on gender perspectives.

The 2020 China New Development Awards is a list of most impactful sustainable development research books from China, published by Springer Nature in 2019. The goal of the award is to improve the process of sharing discoveries on the world stage, and help practitioners to develop innovative and effective policies, programmes and technologies to tackle major social, environmental and economic challenges by creating partnerships and collaborations between professional communities, and between the research fields.

The winning titles cover a wide range of research areas, from social welfare policies to robotics and artificial intelligence, and from immune program to water resource management, authored or co-authored by researchers from China.
