Seminar on ‘Preliminary analysis of the human-wildlife conflict in the Maasai Mara Ecosystem’

Presenter: Huaping Long

Topic: Preliminary analysis of the human-wildlife conflict in the Maasai Mara Ecosystem

Date: February 15, 2017

Time: 12 noon- 2 p.m

Seminar presentation details: The Maasai Mara National Reserve in Kenya is one of Africa’s greatest wildlife reserves and is also known for its rich diversity. However, due to the sharp rise in human population and the conversion of wildlife range into cultivated areas, the human conflict with wildlife has intensified in the Maasai Mara region. Such conflicts have led to increased livestock depredation, crop damage, human and wildlife injuries and deaths etc.

The presentation will highlight the experiences of UNEP-IEMP’s researcher Huaping Long who recently concluded a mission in the Maasai Mara Ecosystem with support from Kenya Wildlife Service. He will also talk about the socio-economic aspects and human-wildlife conflict in the region.
